Who are the Air Guardians
The Air Guardians are a dedicated group of patriotic professionals who are deeply passionate about the mission of the 162d Fighter Wing. We provide invaluable support to the citizen airmen and their families who work tirelessly to uphold that mission We have their back an.
What We Do
As an Air Guardian, you’ll be able to make a tangible difference in the lives of the 1,800 brave men, women, and families of the 162nd Fighter Wing. They are your neighbors with diverse backgrounds, local businessmen and women, retirees from the Air Guard, literally people from all walks of life. Here’s how you can contribute and participate:
Advocacy
Stand alongside us as we support the cause of the 162d Fighter Wing on local, national, and international platforms. Your voice will help ensure their crucial mission receives the recognition and support it deserves in Washington D.C., the State of Arizona, and our local government.
Education
Help spread awareness about the important mission, needs, and impact of the 162nd Fighter Wing within our local Tucson community. Together, we can ensure that everyone understands the invaluable contributions made by our citizen airmen. The Air Guardians set up a display table during Drill Weekends to spread the word about who we are, and what we do for the members of the Guard.
Diplomacy
Play a vital role in welcoming student pilots and foreign dignitaries to the Tucson community, fostering positive relationships, and strengthening ties between our military and the global community.
Fundraising
Participate with us in our fundraising efforts at our Golf Tournament, Top Golf Day, and Family Day events. Your contribution in time and effort will directly benefit those who sacrifice so much to keep us safe.
Now, the fun stuff that only our members get to experience.
Join us in visiting and touring the Morris Air National Guard Base. We regularly attend planning meetings and get-togethers with the Tucson Air Guard. The 162d is eager to give briefings and show us how it all works.
Join us when they set up special private tours for Air Guardians. In the past we’ve gone to the Hush House jet engine test facility, flown in the F-16 flight simulator, and gone to the end of the runway at night to watch afterburner takeoffs from the F-16.
The Air Guardians also take day-long excursions. We have gone to Libby Airfield at Ft. Huachuca in Sierra Vista for a tour of the 214th Attack Group flying the MQ-9 Reaper drone.
Another time we did a day-long excursions to Barry M. Goldwater (bombing) Range located in Gila Bend, AZ, We saw up close the awesome firepower of the F-16 at work both day and night. Flying at near supersonic speeds they were shooting at the rate of 100 bullets per second at ground targets. Earplugs were provided!
These behind-the-scenes tours will leave you with a lasting impression of just how important the mission of the Tucson Air National Guard is for our country. Together we can ensure that the 162nd Fighter Wing continues to thrive and succeed in its mission. Will you join us?
